Little red spider bites

I was doing a little pruning, and a couple of those little red spiders took offense, and bit me. Now I have a few ugly bites on my leg. Boy do they itch! I put some anti-itch stuff on. Anything else I need to do?

Thanks,

Pam

Personally, I'd call my Dr. I have allergies, so better safe than sorry.

I'm not familiar w/the spiders you are describing... what kind of plant were they on?

Is it possible that they are chiggers? Nasty little red bugs - they seem to like to bit in your warm places and leave a big red bump. If you can catch it early before you scratch too much, painting the spot with nail polish is suppose suffocate them.

Yes, it sure sound like chiggers to me, just like ilikemud said. Below, I will post a website for you to read. In the meantime, use Bluestar Ointment or Alcohol on those bites.

Pam, isn't it a long reach for the pruners from the bed????
    Wheren't you on bedrest??

I had some burrowing insect in my neck this year. Oh, yum. Lovely. I used nail polish remover only twice and it killed those things dead. Now I do not look like a vampire bit me!

Actually, I've been off bedrest for a little over a week! Yeah! I can go into labor and it's no big deal at this stage. Being more active has been great, although, I probably do have a tendency to over-do it. Pruning the azaleas, for example. I looked at the chigger link, and it's possible they were chiggers. I think they also look kind of like red spider mites. Really tiny. No bug seems to still be attached.

Thankfully, the itch is only every once in a while. The spots are biggish, but not huge and not super swollen. The last spider bite I had was horribly swollen. So, maybe this won't be too bad.
Thanks for the suggestions and the link!

Im wondering if we have chiggers. When sitting on the pool decking there are these tiny, tiny red spider like bugs. The longer you look down at the decking the more you see. I have had a couple of bites but never saw what bit me. When you rub your finger over one it leaves a reddish brown spot. Does this soundlike chiggers? thanks in advance for any info.

spage, what you are describing sounds like harmless clover mites. They will not bite you. These critters are often seen on siding, decks, etc.

You would find the 'redbugs' or chiggers in the lawn or garden.

Pam, chiggers do NOT attach themselves to your skin other than that moment when they are sucking blood. Chiggers are related to spider mites and look quite similar to them. Though chiggers are larger than spider mites.

I was just out in the garage and I saw a couple of these tiny red spider-like bugs on the workbench that kind of zipped around in circles upon being disturbed--looked kind of cute, and I paid them no mind.

A few minutes ago I came back in the house and was looking at a sheet of paper and felt something biting or stinging my bicep just above my elbow. I looked carefuly and saw one of these little red bugs right at the point it was beginning to feel like a sting. I swabbed it off with a moist sponge.

Anyway I went online and came to this site. It was not a chigger. Make no mistake it was either biting or stinging me and gave quite an irritating stinging sensation not unlike a fire ant or mild bee sting. I rubbed some baking soda/water mixture on it and it is pretty much subsided after 20 minutes. I assure you I am now a little paranoid about these, whatever they are, and no longer see them as cute little harmless creatures. My first inclination was to think they were "red spider mites" but I don't really know. Any ideas?

One was just on me and I was curious if they bite but it did not
