We received a BUNCH of giant pumpkin seeds, but have never grown them. The only pumpkins we have grown were volunteers in a raised bed.

My problem is gophers (the reason for the raised beds).

I was going to start making gopher cages to plant pumpkins in, but there are a couple of questions.

How deep do pumpkin roots go? Will a 2 gal sized cage do the trick, or will the gophers just munch on, and kill the plants?
