AG vine growth problem

Interesting problem here. My AG is growing on a hillside in a fenced-in area. The fence is about 3 feet uphill from the plant's crown. In other words, my goal is to grow the primary vine downhill.

Here's the funny thing. My first true leaf broke off, so I planted the seedling so that this (broken off) leaf pointed uphill, thinking the vine would grow downhill. Well, it's growing uphill ! Primary vine is about a foot or so long now. I have considered trying to gently rotate the vine but I don't think that's going to work.

Current plan is to wait until early evening (when it has cooled off) and essentially dig up the root ball very carefully and manually pick up the entire plant and rotate it 180 degrees, and then water the heck out of it.
