I think it is! When I'm weeding, walking through the yard, or basically doing anything out there I'm watching for them all the time now. I'm going to have to get a little better educated about what's what. I don't think I've seen any yet that are poisonous but since I'm not sure (and usually back way off as soon as I see one), I'm going to be real careful this year..

dont kill the king snakes, they will eat the venomous ones!!!

We see cottonmouths (are they the same as copperheads? or is there a distinction?) near a creek that runs across our property, but so far I haven't seen them in our yard around our house or in our gardens. We do occasionally find king snakes in our swimming pool skimmers (usu babies) and in our yard. My husband thought he spotted a baby rattle snake when he was cleaning up a bed and adding pine straw. I usually leave the non-venomous ones alone.

I accidently mushed a snake egg while I was planting over the weekend. I'd never seen one before! But yeah so far this year I've seen a king snake & found the remains of a garter snake in my house (thanks cats) so that's two more snakes than I usually see in a year.
