Anyone know what these are and how to keep them from feasting on my veggie garden?

Is it a box elder beetle?

My first attempt is always a blast with the hose.

FYI - This is baby bird season and hopefully there are a lot of birds out there looking for insects to feed their chicks. Best to leave some around if possible.

Try praying mantids. You can get them for cheap online.

I don't know what they are, but I know they are not box elder bugs. I've fought those off before.

I'm not totally organic, but I do prefer using predatory insects to control pests, because pesticides and mosquito control often kill or drive off pollinators as well as their intended victims.

I've introduced praying mantids, greenlace bugs and lady bugs to control varying insects and they are pretty effective.

Thanks everyone! Something took care of them for me. They seem to be gone. I had a nest of cardinals so perhaps it was Mama Cardinal. :)
