I went to both Lady Slipper and Autumn Hill this week also, but have never heard of Mann's. Where are these cheap lentens? Thanks in advance.

Mann's Greenhouse is on Hickory Rd. From LadySlipper, go north towards Canton and turn left on the first road (which is Hickory). You should be able to see the greenhouses on the left side of the road.

How sad, I didn't know Mann's was closing. I'll have to go up there next week. When I do that trip I also include the nurseries on Birmingham Highway. Can't remember the names, blooms and blossoms, Perrenial Grace and the big one just north of there. Love it, its my favorite and I can never remember the name.

In talking with the owner's daughter, she said that her dad is ready to retire. Apparently, the land is being sold to be developed commerically. She said they will be opened probably through June or longer depending on closing on the contract.

I told her Mann's was an icon like the Big Chicken. She told me a lady had come in earlier Saturday, spent a couple of hours there and cried the entire time.

I wish the Mann family well and HAPPY RETIREMENT to Mr. Mann.

I would like to try going to Woodstock sometime. Not only to visit the lovely nurseries, but to snoop in Esh's garden!

Yesterday Westender and I had a full day outting, hitting the Athens area nurseries, feed stores and finally the old timey seed swap. I must say, I filled her car. I hogged the very last Julia Child rose from Goodness Grows (but they are going to start more), found a gorgeous white roof iris (I have two blues, but this one is so purely lovely) to go with white scented spring phlox. Tons of herbs and succulents/sedums. What fun. The seed swap (which is not really a swap, but a give-away) yeilded some unusual bean varieties and heirloom tomatoes who's seeds are not yet available (you bet I will learn to save these tomato seeds!!). Some of those farmers and seed savers are really neat people and it sure was interesting to see that the seed saving is pretty much their whole life and interest. They are very dedicated to it.
Westender was very kind to me yesterday, and I really appreciate everything she did, especially after I stole her map and forgot to give gasoline money! Westy, I owe ya!

snoogie, the big one on Birmingham Hwy is Scottsdale Farms. Perennial Grace is growing a lot, they are worth a stop for anyone going that way. I've never been to Blooms and Blossoms, are they mostly annuals?

It sounds like there are some good nurseries in the Woodstock area. My daughter has moved there from Gwinnett Co. and I'd love to go plant shopping when I visit her. Can anyone give me some names and general locations of nurseries around there?

Actually, these nurseries are not in the Woodstock city limits. These nurseries are in the Hickory Flat area off Hwy 140 between Roswell and Canton, or just a few miles away on Birmingham Hwy just north of Crabapple. Those with a * have websites.

Just got home from Mann's. I picked up a nice assortment of hostas, some agastache, a peony and some hellebores. I had a nice talk with Mr. Mann, he took me on a tour of the property to show me what's left and to check out his watering sysytem. I told him I'd be back this week for more, but I came in my car and didn't have anymore room!
I also stopped at Ladyslipper, Perennial Grace and Scottsdale but didn't see anything I couldn't live with.

I was also at Scottsdale this afternoon...gees, we might have just walked past each other. Acturally, I walked out with $177 worth of plants, 4 shrubs and a rain guage. My husband was with me and had the joy of pulling the cart...ha.

We also stopped at Lady Slipper. By the time we got to Perennial Grace, they had closed which was good thing since there was no room left in my CRV.
