Your need ID plant is Aspidistra aka Cast Iron plant.
Cut back all the old leaves and new ones will grow. It needs to be in deep shade to keep from burning. Or more water. They will live in almost total darkness.
FYI your succulents look like you have an agave or two along with the Sedum. I sugguest you remove the pine straw from around the base and put gravel or they will rot.

I, too, love the black stockings. That one is my "test plant". I bought some individuals to try from plantdelights.com. So far, my favorites are the black stockings and the giant calla seems really healthy. They all arrived in great condition, I'm just trying to get a feel for where they are happy in my soil.
Thanks for the advice cactusfreak. I am new to the rock garden idea. The agave is another "test". I will now go and remove the straw and replace with gravel - makes sense. Would a sega palm do ok in the gravel too? It would really good among the succulents but I may be "mixing" too much.

Sago palms aka Cycads are iffy in your zone. But you could protect it or bring it in for the winter. It needs very very little water as do the agaves once established. Your roses will need more water so be careful when watering. Also you need to have very good drainage (lots of sand and gravel in your soil) for the agaves and cycads.
Your sedum can take as much water as your roses as long as it drains well.
