Pretty neat, had to share.......

I love watching bananas grow! I have been very excited to watch the development of an inflorescence on a species I've never seen bloom in person. I have had Musa basjoo since 2000 and while it is very interesting to see it flower, I've seen it do so many times now. This one however is new for me. I planted it April 16, 2004 and this is its first ever flower!! Very weird and wonderful. I have seen pictures of many different types of bananas bloom and without fail the stems on which the inflorescenses are borne always have a couple leaves. This plant bears its flower atop a leafless stem! For those not familiar, this is Musella lasiocarpa.
