Please tell more. One month in ziplock bag?? please explain. I am a 100% complete ginger newbie and have access to some really nice store ginger. Would you please tell what you did with the ziplock bag and tell about the heater also.

I took a really big peice of ginger and broke it into 3 pieces. I wrapped these pieces in a damp paper towel and put each one into a different ziplock bag ( to prevent the spread of mold). I set them on a table next to our heater downstairs, it was out of the way and probably the warmest place in the house.
The little knobs on the root put out weird spider looking roots and a small green stem, when I noticed them I laid the roots on their side under ~ 1 inch of soil and set them next to the window.
They were really easy to grow. Hope I helped.

I just recieved a piece of rhizome my sister brought me from Hawaii (store bought)It had no roots, but had a small red bud, I didnt no which way to plant, so I planted the red nub sticking out of the soil, put it under a grow light. Do I need any special instruction for growing.
