I saw a flowering one in a 15 gallon pot at Stokes Tropicals in New Iberia, LA in their large greenhouse several years ago. I tried for several years to grow this very cold sensitive ginger over wintering it in my heated greenhouse and had no luck. I've gotten lots of other ultra tropical container grown plants to flower, including many medium and large size heliconia but I was not successful with torch ginger. It requires temperatures consistent in the 60's with very high humidity. It was prone to attacks of spider mites in my greenhouse even though I kept the humidity high with good air circulation. This will be a tough one for you to grow in New York. Nevertheless, with a lot of work, it can be done.
