My mother in law told me to pull leaves out of a strep to take cuttings, because they might already have a shoot coming. I tried this on one and it worked, but on other I couldn't without damaging the plant, or the leaf breaking/tearing.

Is it best to pull or cut?

If you cut, is there any particular technique? Do you have to get a piece of leaf stalk?
