Are you aware that night-blooming jasmine (_Cestrum nocturnum_) is a tropical shrub rather than a vine? As such, it is probably not suitable to grow on a lattice regardless of its tolerance, or intolerance, of cold temperatures. I grow it as a potted plant in our USDA Zone. Some who grow night-blooming jasmine in Zone 8a say that it will overwinter in our climate if one mounds a lot of sand around the base of the plant in the late fall and, then, removes the protective sand when the weather warms up the following spring. The top of the plant will die back during the winter, but the night-blooming jasmine will normally regrow from its root system the following spring. Or so they say. I grow it in a pot and have had no experience with it in the open ground. The flowers of night-blooming jasmine provide a delicious fragrance.

thank you so much for the info. The reason I thought I could grow it as a vine was because when I was a child I remember going with my parents to visit relatives in fla and we sat out on their back porch at night drinking tea and they had the most fragrant night blooming jasmine. In my memory it was a vine but now, thinking back, I"m sure it was a shrub planted on the other side of their screen. Now that I now this, I can get one and not have to wait for the vine to grow-lol. I've discovered several reputable mail-order nurseries that supply _Cestrum nocturnum_. Among them, Logee's would be a good choice because their containers normally have several night-blooming jasmines per pot--a little pricey, but it's sometimes nice to have a baker's dozen.
