Wow! That Thai Pink is LONG! Does it bloom much?

My Thai Pink has yet to bloom for me, but it is still only a year old. It is a seasonal bloomer and I started it at a time when it would not be conducive to it blooming quickly for me. Aeschynanthus require their growth to be mature before blooming. It has been a very fast grower for me, and the vines are now about 7 feet long.

O-O!!! I just planted 2 cuttings. What about trimming the thing to keep it in some kind of limits? And sticking cuttings back to the pot?

Im my experience both Aeschynanthus and Nematanthus need to be mature before they start blooming.

You can trim Thai Pink to keep it in check (and this promotes branching) and place cuttings back in the pot to make a fuller pot. It is a very vigorous grower, so be prepared to give lots of cuttings away or sell some starters.

I have three small A.chinanthus growing. I am anxious to see them in bloom. A year?? Eeks :(. LOL Some Aeschy grow and bloom fast others take their sweet time. "Plants will be plants, eh!" How much light is it getting?

I give Thai Pink a lot of light. In general, much more than I would give any AV, except for those with the darkest green leaves. When I worked at a garden center we had a shipment of Thai Pink come in that were very small and blooming, though I can't honestly remember if they had recent pruning scars, or if the grower had somehow managed to get them to bloom at a very young age. Individual vines were only about 6" long. A great Aeschy. that blooms early and branches a lot without much pruning is Coral Flame. Awesome little plant. It has buds for the second time in less than a year since starting it.

A. Coral Flame is one I haven't had much luck with. I was given 3 cutting and could get none of them to root. Put them in a prop box. All I can get from them is little tiny buds and leaves. I think I may have put the wrong end in the dirt? :) LOL
