Hi Betty,

I have grown kohleras. And like you the plants produced several rhizomes. I have always taken each rhizome and planted them intact. The larger the rhizome, the bigger the kohlera that grows from it. I would guess that you would be able to break the rhizome in sections and plant them. It makes sense to me that you would be able to. I wouldn't cut them into too small of pieces though.

Thanks, Larry! Man, I should get a sequoia-sized plant from one of these rhizomes. ;) I'm having so much fun with my gesneriads. I'll take one rhizome to share with the hostess of our Central Arkansas AV club this morning. She was a sweetie to share her gessies with me when I was a newbie in the club. I think sharing with friends and meeting groovy people online and in person is one of the very best parts of being a gesneriad junkie. I'll plant the rest of my rhizomes whole and just see what I get. Actually, I think I may cut back my original plant, do tip cuttings, and see about getting a bowl full of K. 'Strawberry Field' plants to show at Dixie this spring. Do you think this plant would be considered a gesneriad grown for it's foliage--just in case it isn't in bloom at the time? Thanks again.

Wow, Linda! I hadn't found that wonderful place at Rob's Violet's website. I see all sorts of lessons posted for us, too. I'll put the url below. The rhizomes in the picture look exactly like my plant's. Rolling up a plant is news to me, too. I can hardly wait to get home from work this evening to return to the Lessons page--or maybe Nathan will get my computer at work fixed, he-he.
