Thanks. We're having the fence replaced this summer (son will do it for us...cheap labor..ha) and I'm going to have an arbor built at each gate to grow something....gets a lot of shade, so not sure what my best options are.

We're goint to eventually extend the path (inner loop) around the yard by using the same stepping stones. Since they cost about $5.00 a piece, it'll take a while. My husband and I laughed and said we could give each other the stepping stones for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

Doesn't it feel great to solve a problem area! That's a cute idea about giving the stepping stones as presents (although at $5 a piece, I'd expect to get 3 or 4); who needs another whatchamacallit?

Oh definitely more than one stone....I'm thinking at least 7-8...ha.

That looks great. You said theya are stepping stones, they look like stone. Are those the stones from Lowes that are made from concrete to look like stone? It is hard to see the details of them in the photos. What sort of stone did you use for your base? That had to be a lot of work. We are thinking about adding a flagstone path to our yard, but my husband is allergic to manual labor. LOL. So we are still just thinking.

The stepping stones are the concrete formed stones that we bought at Home Depot....they have irregular shapes to them.

The smaller stones are river stones which are the next size up from pea gravel, also bought at home depot. I think we had to buy 35 bags of the stone.

We actually didn't intend to do the project when we did. One Sunday morning, after church, we stopped at Home Depot to price the stone, etc. and before we knew it, we were purchasing the stuff and started that after noon. It took a total of about 11 hours over two days.

Well worth it in the end!

great path! what did you line the edges with to keep the rocks on the path and out of your bed??

We used the black landscape edging that you can get at Home Depot or Lowe's. We also lined the path with landscape fabric to prevent the mud from coming up in the rocks.

That looks really nice! A lot of work, too, I'll bet. It's odd that we all seem to "not" set out to do something like this. We simply find ourselves in a garden department somewhere and one day and -- WHAM -- a project is born.

I admire all that shade you have!! My subdivision was built in pasture land and the only trees I have is what I planted. Since the trees are all so young, not much shade at all really.

Sharon I can't find the pictures of your path. I just started my adventure into gardening last year with vegetables. I was dared by my husband and that was all I needed. With the help of my dear fiend, (a master gardner and mentor) I cut down the necessary trees the next day and had the veggies & planted within the next 3days..so much for challenges in my family. I just made new beds and paths for my new perineal garden....a work in progress since it is just me and limited funds. For my paths, I called my tree man and asked if he would bring tree clipping from his jobs. To my surprise I ended up with 3 huge loads that I made my paths, saving the rest to season. Maybe not the best material for a path, but it was free and it fades into my landscape nicely. Now I am adding plants as I can afford. Love this site.

Sharon I have dreams of a garden path just like yours. For now, I have way too many other projects going I have to finish, like our deck! We finally got the deck finished but we will still need to stain it and seal. Looks like you have lots of shade like we do. I am in need of a tree man, I am getting rid of some of these sick, hollow OLD pecan trees! Then I can finally have more flowers, roses and more roses! Sharon in Pine Mt. Georgia
