I bought mine at Truitt & White lumber yard in Berkeley (I'm in San Mateo). There's a yard in Newark (Golden State Lumber) that supposedly carries it but when I called they said they were out of stock at the moment (they were expecting a delivery the following week but I needed it sooner). Truitt & White has half of a large shed full of the stuff. Eco Design Resources in San Carlos will get it for you (I think from T&W) too but they don't have it on site.

BTW-the major brand is Ultratouch by Bonded Logic.

I like the Ultratouch because it uses a waste stream/recycled source and requires no special precautions for installation-fiberglass is nasty stuff for your skin, lungs, eyes etc. regardless of its formaldehyde content. I know they're making some 'sealed' fiberglass batts now but you'll still have to cut that so while its better I'd still rather not deal with the stuff! :) I'd also think that even with the sealed batts if the stuff ever needs to be removed it will invariably get torn then too. I'd rather avoid that kind of exposure for anyone who ever has to work on my home-even if I don't live here anymore.

Anyone had experience with this stuff? What about rodents making nests in there?

According to the manufacturer rodents (and other pests/vermin) find the insulation 'inhospitable' due to the borax impregnated in the fibers.

My experience extends only so far as that I installed it in December as part of our kitchen remodel. No rodent problems so far (not that its been very long)!

sjerin-sorry!-I didn't mean to jump on you about the formaldehyde free fiberglass! Its certainly better than reg fiberglass-I was just trying to explain some of the reasons we still chose Ultratouch :)

There is also a type of natural formaldehyde-free insulation called "Rockwool" but I haven't been able to find anyone in the Houston area who sells/installs it. I think it's a blown type of insulation and I want it for my attic. It's also supposed to be one of the most fire-retardant types on the market. I'm still looking!

another great insulation now is sheeps wool - big in Australia and New Zealand of course, and also in Europe, but now becoming available in N America - I plan on using it in the old highway bus I'm converting for a retirement home - found a supplier here in Canada
