Most of the butterfly gingers are hardy in your zone and very easy. Just provide good drainage, lots of water in the summer and lots of fertilizer.
Hedychium coronarium is probally the most common and available.

Sorry, I didn't get back to you. Someone else is asking the same question so I was looking for this to refer them to.
You can buy them now and just keep in barely moist peat or potting soil til spring. Do not get too wet or they will rot. They go dormant in the winter even in Florida.

Probably the only difference for you in buying now or later might be that you can find some on close out now at the cheep price.

Hedychiums don;t really go dormant here in FL, if the weather stays above freezing they will stay up all season, ratty but intact... but a hard freeze in the 20's usually levels them until March. My H. Elizabeth never went down last winter even in the face of a hard freeze to 22F.
