I'm surprised Tim did not already reply to this one, since he is the person who brought this beautiful plant into U.S. horticulture. As I understand it, it is a K. rotunda form, and it will go dormant in late fall, resprouting in late spring. As with other K. rotunda forms, the flowers come up before the foliage, and they are similar dark blue-purple and white as the others.

Do you know if they are vigorous growers and multiply quickly? These were small plants. Thank-you.

K. rotunda 'Silver Diamonds' is a beauty, but I'd say its the slowest growing of all of the available K. rotunda clones. It will spread, but not as fast as the others. The original plant didn't spread at all, and the only way to propagate it was from the old rhizome. Plants like this can often do better if "started over" from seed or tissue culture. The ones that have been produced actually multiply, so thats much better than it was... but its still slower. It has the best form and foliage, so thats the trade off.

In your area it will probably go dormant a bit later than for us, and may sprout a little sooner. It will still most likely be one of the very last perennials to sprout for you as most winter dormant gingers are "late."
