Alpinia Vittata hardiness?

I purchased Alpinia Vittata variegata (yellow) from Home depot this summer. I'm very unfamiliar with this LA climate and hardiness info as to what will come back or not. Will this ginger at least come back from the ground next year? or was I misled by the garden center into thinking that it was the right plant for my area? Thanks

A. Vittata is a zone 10 plant. I don't think it will make it in Baton Rouge in the ground. It probably should be container grown and protected in the winter.

If your plant has yellow and green variegation then it is most likely Alpinia zerumbet variegated. A vittata has more of a white variegation, not yellow. As Steve said A vittata is not hardy, however A zerumbet is quite hardy.

I'm in St Gabriel , Louisiana not far from you and I've never seen A vittata for sale in any local nurseries. On the other hand the variegated A zerumbet is seen everywhere as it is a popular landscape plant.

There are actually at least 7 different variegated Alpinia, A zerumbet being the most easily found locally.

I saw some A. zerumbet that were marked incorrectly as A. vittata here in Lafayette at Home Depot.

yes I purchased it at home depot but it was marked as Alpinia Vittata and it does have very yellow variegation.
I will be crossing my fingers that it makes it. thanks
