I think so. Onions are not much for heat. Mine from seed are about done, and the sets I put out never did very well. The bulbs really didn't get much bigger (although they are not Vidalias)

I would plant them, although it is rather late for this area. You could harvest green onions, at least.
Onions grow best in cooler temperatures, below 75°F, but as long as the soil temperature remains below that and afternoon shade is provided, they should produce bulbs.
Be sure they receive at least 8 hours of sunlight, but protect the exposed (above ground) portion of the bulb from direct sunlight (can cause sun-scald). Keep the soil moist at all times! A lot of moisture is required to produce a larger, sweeter onion.

Growing organic?
Incorporate copious amounts of compost or manure into the planting soil, which should be loose and well drained. Side dress with same, every 4-5 weeks during the growing season.
pH should be between 6 & 7. Adjust, if necessary, for optimum results.
When the tops begin to yellow and fall over, withhold moisture and allow the soil to dry out. Harvest the bulbs 2-3 weeks later. Allow to dry completely, before removing the tops & roots.

Anyone know of a local source for the Potato Onion? Not related to the potato! but is a perennial variety of the common biennial onion. They rarely produce seed, but produce multiple offset bulbs each year. They are also frost-hardy and in this area, would probably be evergreen,
During my youth, living in the Midwest (Z6), we had a bed of them in the garden, but I haven't heard of anyone growing them in recent years.
They are sometimes called "Egyptian Onion".

I have potato onions, I just planted them last year and could not find them available anywhere locally so I got them from Landreth. They seem to be doing very well. I grow a topset onion which are often called egyptian onions.
