The only problem I can see is that the metal might get too hot if it is painted a dark color. How big is the structure? Most gourd vines are pretty large, but they will not get as big in poor soil as in good soil. If it's a gazebo, I assume it's at lest big enough for a person to get inside? That should be big enough.
