Would you mind sharing how you planted it? What did you plant - one clove, a whole bulb, etc? What kind of soil? How long before you harvest it? Any details would be great.

I plant my garlic in late October usually, and I have raised garden beds with well ammended soil. The year I plant garlic in that bed I do not ammend in the fall with any fertilizers. The soil is not red clay which causes the garlic to split sometimes, but just good loam. I plant one clove in each "hole" off of the best heads I collected the year before and I plant every 4" because the heads don't get too huge for me. Water them in well, make sure they get 1" of water once a week until the end of March and then I do not water them again at all - when maturing I find they don't like it too wet. I do use imature garlic as onions during the winter. YUM when sauteed. Then I harvest the heads only when the tops begin to wither and fall over. I actually wait one week after this happens before digging as an Egyptian friend told me to do. Then I dry the bulbs outside for a week or so before using.
