But the way, you can buy composted cow manure and mushroom compost if you need compost for your lawn.

I think the mulch would mess up the mower blades.

If you want to top dress your lawn with compost, but don't have enough (and who does?), you can cart home all the composted fish manure you want from the trout hatchery near Lake Lanier. All you can haul for free. Also, it is composted already so the smell is gone. The one problem I have noticed with it is that last year's batch had Johnson grass seeds in it. Because I was using it as a layer in lasagna beds, only a few seeds sprouted and I pulled them out. I would think twice about spreading it on my lawn without treating it first - don't know what that treatment would be.

The fish manure idea sounds great! Lots of nitrogen. I wish I lived close to lake Lanier.

I'm thinking of things that I can buy from a garden center by the truckload and rake into the lawn. Actual mulch would be bad for the lawnmower, but pine bark fines? At least until I can improve a lot more soil, we are talking acres here. I hate grass!
