Your outcome will always be different. Who can depend on a growing season to be "by the book"? My best advice is just plant and see what happens.

I know there are no guarantees of yield. I am just looking for average yields for different varieties. For example, the first year I planted Jack Be Little pumpkins I put in 6 plants because I didn't know that each plant produces an average of 12-15 pumpkins. I now know that 2 of Jack Be Little are enough. I am trying to plan my garden so that I don't have an excess of one variety and a shortage of another. I am also limited on space so I have to plan very carefully so that I can grow everything I want (I have a backyard garden and also rent 2 spaces in the community garden.)

I think a good rule of thumb is the larger the pumpkin the fewer you will get from one plant. A good approximation might be 4-8 pumpkins from smaller (about 10 pound) varieties, maybe 1-4 for larger jack-o-lantern size pumpkins and maybe 1-2 for the mammoth sized varieties. Keep in mind this will vary widely based on growing conditions and I am sure some people have very different numbers but in general I don't think this is a bad approximation.
