In Spring of 2006, I wondered if elevating the Spring temperatures by placing a hot cap over my ornamental grass clumps would make them bloom earlier in the Summer than previous years. I did not need to use hot caps, for April 2006 was extraordinarily warmer and more consistently above normal temperatures compared to prior years.

The results of this were interesting. I noticed three things.

1.) My Ornamental Grasses sprouted up more quickly

2.) Bloom time was not significantly earlier than prior years.

3.) Grass height was much taller by end of Summer, provided that watering was consistent. For the first time ever, my Miscanthus Zebrinus plumes reached the 10' mark in five years of growing this variety.

Has anyone else noticed that in warmer zones that your ornamental grass grows taller than in Northern climates?
