My mother-in-law planted carex by her pond in Zone 5a. It looked great, but has experienced increasing crown die off over the past three years.

I haven't had much luck with the Carex morowii cultivars in my zone 5 garden. Good for a couple of years and then ... poof, gone. However, I haven't grown the cultivar that you mention.

The other two I have never grown - I'd better get my grass book out - I might be missing something good :o)

The carex Ice Dance is an Awesome plant for zone 5. Mine has spread nicely but not invasively and I've transplanted it everywhere. Really nice under rhodies and large shrubs.
