I think they are waning, at least here. THey usually target my yellow roses the most. We sprayed some yesterday on the roses and crepe myrtles. They also seemed to like magnolia flowers, but don't damage them. Hopefully they are gone for good and my roses can bloom in peace.

It doesn't seem like it's been especially bad this year with the JB's. Usually a ton of them somehow get inside or I go out on the deck and there will be a dozen clinging to my shirt. Not so this year.

I think they are about gone too...I didn't have as many fly into my hair this weekend.

I haven't had as many this year, either. In fact, less than the past two years. Or maybe I'm just getting better at averting my gaze. I don't think my neighbors across the street hanged any JB Traps this year, and that may have attracted fewer to my yard.

Mine were gone for a few days - maybe because of the rain, But they are back in full force. I had over 100 on one yellow rose bush alone. I did go beserk and spray them with Sevin.

No, they are not gone! When, oh when? I was dead heading this morning, without my jar of soapy water, and I saw many. I just grabbed them and stomped them. Only a couple got away. Holes are in the leaves of my sweet potato vine and Brugmansia. I think these beetles like them, too.

I just read Walter Reeves calendar in the paper. He is talking about controlling JBs in the 3rd week of July!

I rarely see one here north of Atlanta so I was shocked to find one this morning. They were here by the thousands when we moved here 28 years ago but they have gradually diminished. Hope they don't come back.

gmom, I am NE of Atlanta and have had them as long as I had roses. 2 years ago was the worst, although I did put traps out that year, so that could have been it.

I've seen exactly one JB this year and that was right after the rains this past week. Normally we're infested with them here in N. GA with no end in sight of the dessimation of plants. DH laid out Triazanine a couple of months ago and it has taken care of any possibility of insects eating my plants or ants building mounds in our grass. It's been a life saver. I used my new Orange Guard to murder the one JB and haven't seen another one since. :)

Buford, I don't have roses. I tried a Mr. Lincoln right after moving here but the beetles liked it more than I did. We put out traps for several years till I read that they attracted beetles from surrounding areas. We put Milky Spore on the yard, too, and that seemed to help.

I sprayed with sevin tonight. Hate doing that but they were just clustered all over my knockout rose hedge. Thousands.
At least by spraying at dusk the bees have gone home for the evening, supposedly.

They seem worse this year...I really need to apply milky spore for next year.

I don't know how far north they go but when I was a child I lived in Maryland and I would do outside and shake a crabapple tree limb to hear the buzz of the thousands of beetles in the tree.

I usually have hundreds of them, but I did the Milky Spore last year and this year I've only seen a couple. Has it been a light JB year for everyone, or did the ilky Spore really help that much?

I have been complaining about these guys but now I am beginning to believe that I was complaining too much. I have not had hundreds at any time. Even though they were eating my roses, there were none on my Rose of Sharon or Crape Myrtle, as reported by some of my friends. Picking them off my roses is not that bad a job. I cut rose buds when I find any without disfiguring bites. I will be using something to get rid of the grubs at the right time. A friend reported that spraying them with soapy water with cayenne pepper added worked great on plants that were too tall to reach otherwise. They MUST be close to the end of their cycle by now.

There are definitely a lot fewer than there were a week or two ago, but they are still here.

I live in Auburn,GA and still have JB's. I don't keep roses anymore and I did the milky spore thing many years ago. I have noticed a decline in the JBs over the years but this summer has been bad. They attack my bananas, Althea and crape myrtles.
The good thing is that the Cardinals love to hang out in my crape myrtles and attack the JBs. My bird boxes have been busy this year (bluebirds,finches, etc) and I have seen several other nests around the yard (cardinals, robins). I don't like using pesticides because of the birds and my pets so I just live with them for the time being.
