Often people would ask me if I could suggest a good groundcover to use under pine trees. I have numerous pine trees on my property, and I have seen very little grow under them without irrigation. While on vacation this summer I came across an established groundcover of Convallaria majalis "Lily of the Valley" growing densely under at least a 400 foot row of scrub pines. So I can honestly say that this plant seemed to thrive under a dry bed of pine trees without irrigation. This picture was taken in late July, and the foliage still looked fresh. I have been trying to eradicate this plant out of my garden for years, so now when I see one pop it's head up, I'll just give it a new home under one of my pines. You just can't beat the fragrance of Lily of the Valley in the spring.
