Those pots look awful small, pumpkins need room for their roots. I grow atlantic giants and I start them in coffee
cans and 3 to 4 days after emerging the roots are already
to the bottom so I assume it's not much different whith other varities.

Some of these are atlantic giants. I have others growing in 1 gallon pots and they look the same. This tray are 2.5 inch square. Is it possible the cold damp start did this? As the weather had flipped back and forth.

Not sure about the cold and damp, maybe. But 2 1/2 inches is too small. They also look awful leggy, this is usally caused by a lack of light. I'd try to get them planted ASAP. Have you over watered them? The soil should be damp, not wet.

Ya i did plan on getting them out asap after they grew there first or second real leaf as they usually grow fast filling roots in a pot quickly. I will check out that site.
