I just started work on a 60 hill pumpkin patch yesterday. I did a final till, and made about 15 hills before calling it quits for the day. This morning, I came back to find one hill entirely dug up, another halfway destroyed, and a third with just a good size hole. I'm not great with tracks, but I imagine it was a skunk or coon attracted by the freshly-dug earth. Looks like it didn't find much and gradually gave up. I hadn't planted seeds yet, or it probably would have been worse.

Anyone had this kind of thing in the spring with their hills? I know skunks and racoons aren't particularly interested in the plants themselves, but do you think their interest in the freshly stirred up ground (ie insects, grubs, worms, etc) will fade after the first few nights?
