What kind of grass is it?

hameln, malepartus, feather reed, overdam, windspiel, souix bleu, that covers most of them and incicates the approx. height.

Hameln
Malepartus
Sioux Blue

These are all warm season grasses, and should be cut down to the tops of new growth, or to 2-3", whichever is shorter.

Feather reed
Overdam
Windspiel

These are cool season grasses, and should be cut down to 1-2" above new growth.

Donn ..... I don't see new growth yet unless it's inside the the old growth. I'm thinking the cold has kept them dormant. Should I cut down to bottom of plumes and them work down the grass 'til I see some green new growth, if any? It's a mess to get in there being so wet and soft. Don't want to damage the roots. This will be only the second year to cut as the grasses were started three years ago. 2010 was the first cutting, done mid April, this will be the second.

However...I think I've seen some of these pics before. I recognize the dog, and I could sure use that truck.

Get down on your knees, and reach inside the dead (brown) foliage from last year. Chances are, you have no new shooting on the warm season grasses yet, but you should see something on the cool season ones. It may only be tiny shoots, just peeking out of the crown.

Go ahead and cut them all down to 2" in height. They'll be fine.

Thanks Donn. You are a dear! Looked today and nothing yet so down they go tomorrow. Have to straddle the plants to stay off the roots. Wet as a sponge today and rain 'til mid May it says on the Weather Network. Will post some pics before and after the cutting and again in the summer. Good memory about the dog sighting.
