I'd say it is ROS too.

Hybiscus syriacus or Rose of Sharon. If it's only blooming at the tops of the plants it probably isn't getting enough sun. Did you stand on a ladder to get those pics?

Well somebody had a thing for roses named Sharon, apparently. One of the roses I found in front turned out to be Sharon's Delight. I don't suppose it's a good time to move them .. I counted 12. I'm too new at this to be a snob and I think they're pretty. Very few blooms though, unless it's too early.

Yes, it is Rose of Sharon. Another name for it (besides the proper name of Hibiscus syriacus) is Althea. This was the name I always heard growing up, many years ago. I love them and have always acquired at least one everywhere I have lived. When I see a color I don't have, I always ask for seeds. They are easy to grow and very pretty, I think. You can prune them to any size you want, too, in early spring before they leaf out and bloom. Probably afterwards, too!

If I stay in this house I'll prune them back next spring so I don't have to stand on a ladder to see the prettiest part of the plant. They are also obscured by this tree, which someone is welcomed to identify for me.

So if I want a plant or two in the front yard next year, do I collect seeds and if so, how and when? Or can I get a cutting?

I have several altheas, all double. I got them the easy way; snipped off a twig or two when I spotted one I liked, stuck it in water and roots were produced in no time.

It can grow very large so be sure you have room for it when you plant one. Likes sun.

They are also easily grown from seed.
Save seed pods after forming to full size when they become dry and brown, but before they pop open. Open and discard pods and save seed separately in dry place or envelopes, bags, jars or containers that keep out moisture. They will keep for years if stored well.
