Dwarf Fountain Grass from Seed?

I have a huge clump of Dwarf Fountain Grass, I don't know the real name, but I did notice Liriope has sprouted in the middle of it.

Afraid of losing the whole clump to the monkey grass, I collected seeds last winter and am trying to grow more Dwarf Fountain Grass. Will it come true from seed? Is the seed sterile?

Can't say if the seed will work or not. It depends on the grass. You can get a quick read on the seed's viability by sowing some in a wet paper towel in a baggie. Keep it inside in a warm place. If the seed is viable, it'll only take a few days to a week to sprout.

If you have a big clump of the dwarf, and it's in danger of being overrun, why not pull it and divide it into several smaller clumps? Then you know that you'll have more clumps of the same grass, and the clumps will be further along than seed-grown clumps.
