Indian used to plant pumpkins, beans, and corn together. They called them the three sisters. The pumpkins provided mulch for the corn and beans. The corn stalks supported the bean vines. I can see a similar symbiotic relationship here! I have also heard of planting pole beans with sunflowers, as the tall, sturdy stems of the sunflowers will provide support for the climbing bean vines as the grow and the flowers will attract pollinators. I'm going to try it next year and see if it works!
