Yes. Panicum v. 'Rostrahlbusch' will have ample room here to grow without division until its age demands it; their ultimate diameter does not exceed 3'Âusually 24"-30". I planted P.v. 'Heavy Metal' at my Dad's place (z6, Penna.) alongside steps to an entry porch in a bed less deep than 3 ft., and it is great there. After 4 years, still no need to move or divide (whereas the Misc. s. 'Adagio' on the other side of the steps MUST be divided and made smaller this year). The other suggestion (above: C. 'Karl Foerster') is good, too.

Thanks for the replies! I still haven't made a decision. Looking on the web for info and photos (not many photos for this species) it appears Rotstrahlbusch looks kinda scraggly. Is this the case? Even Shenandoah didn't look to tidy.

ya, but Calamagrostis Karl Forester is not as attractive in fall as any Panicum. Plus, its a cool season grass with just simple contrasts....Panicum "Northwinds" would be another grass that would be cool there...
