I planted some in the fall; it comes up every year, then dies back in hot weather. I snip the leaves and use them in cooking. You can purchase different varieties but I simply went to the grocery store, purchased a clove, broke it into pieces and planted each piece.

my friend has a lot of wild garlic growing on her property... she gave me some and i thought they did nothing, but it turns out i just didn't know enough about them. they grow and bloom, and then you have to wait for them to "die".... the stalks and leaves need to be left alone as they wither and fall over and all but decompose, and then you dig underneath and harvest the bulb of garlic. when she told me i went and dug down in my herb bed and sure enough, cloves of garlic everywhere :) she says it can be done with regular garlic as well.... just separate it into cloves and bury 'em.
