Ornamental Grass

Plume Grass Seedlings

I started some plume grass from seed a few months ago.

Right now they're just about an inch tall.

I'd like to transplant them outside. I'm in zone 6 and have a nice sunny spot for them.

I'm wondering if I should transplant them now or wait until the seedlings are more developed.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Ann...I would start hardening them off now. Put them outside for an increasing amount of time each day, and after a couple of weeks, stick 'em in the ground. Ravenna Grass (Plume Grass) is a very sturdy plant, and will probably do just fine for you.

I have 16 cells of it in one of the coldframes, but it hasn't started to sprout yet. Warm season grasses are just starting to germinate for me now. I've got a few Miscanthus and 2 Carex sprouting in the past couple of days.

I hardened the seedling last week and planted outside Saturday. As of this mornging it looks like they are still doing well. =)
