Warm season grass...give the soil some time to warm up and it will push growth much faster.

Fountain grasses are the last ornamental grasses to start growing in my garden each year. They also are not as winter hardy as many other varieties. Give it time. Once the weather heats up it will do better.

I have grown many grasses and for some reason I have found a morph I think, of the dwarf hemelin fountain grass in an area where there is extreme light from laser.

Has anyone known this grass to spread easily from seed or birds?

Please let me know because it seems to be taking over and a true dwarf hamelin generally does not, at least to my knowledge.

I have several different cultivars of Pennisetum, including 'Hameln' and the only one which has ever self-sown is 'Moudry.' I'm in a very warm zone 7 (the past 3 winters have been zone 8), so I would expect if 'Hameln' was going to throw volunteers, it would have done so.

I have heard that Hameln doesn't self-seed but I have seedlings from my three Hameln (very clear on ID) every year. But there aren't too many, and are very easy to yank and either move, or give away, or toss.
