hollyhock seeds germinating on plant

I took a close look at my hollyhock, and discovered that all the seeds were germinating in the seed pod still attached to the mother. So I just clipped them off and let them fall to the ground. I didn't try to scatter them because I was worried I would damage the delicate babies. Anybody else had this problem? Suggestions? I really want this hollyhock to multiply.

That is so interesting! I think I would plant the little babies in some soil and water them. You'd have better luck in getting them to grow, and you could watch them eaiser. Plant them out after they get a little bigger.

I think it was so dry for so long that they truly dried out right on the stem. Then it got so wet all of a sudden that they germinated right in the pod. Argggh- this was a beautiful ruffled pink hollyhock- the only one of a whole tray of seedlings I planted last year to bloom. The weather is foiling my cottage garden plans at every turn!
