Miscanthus is usually earlier out than Panicum, but that doesn't mean it's a goner yet. The weather's been weird and it really does take 3 or so weeks of warm temps to push out of dormancy. It still may have life in it and may surprise you in the next week or so.

On the flip side, panicum is hardier than miscanthus, so would have survived a cold winter better. I've also seen that panicum reacts strangely to dormancy. If it is a mild winter and it never has a really hard sleep, panicum is very slow and weaker out of dormancy. A colder winter usually results in panicum coming out earlier and stronger.

Thanks - i will give it a chance. Its raining here and things are greening up. I've got some perennials i was on the verge of giving up on, including joe pye weed. It just sprouted up today.

Well, ive given up on them now. I read that miscanthus likes warm soil, and if planted in the fall may not establish before winter - maybe thats what happened.

Meanwhile, the joe pyes and other plants can be divided, if it ever stops raining!
