cutting sedge

i have a bunch of the varegated sedge...the small japanese sedge...i think it is carex evergold, and some years they just look ratty.

does anyone cut these back in the spring, and if so, do they come back full...or do you cut out each and every ratty looking leaf blade...or what do you all do with these....
