Pumpkins, Squash & Gourds

Can I thin?

1st time with pumpkins. I have 2 hills with 3 plant stocks each (didn't know I needed to thin to one). From each hill I have at least one good pumpkin each developing around 8" - 10" diameter. Those are about all I need. The vines are spread about 6' from the center of each hill.

Can I cut out the extra stocks just leaving the producing ones and open thing up for the other plants they are crowding?

Well yes you should have thinned but it seems such a shame to kill the plants this late in the season. You say those two pumpkins are all you need correct? So why not just leave the other vines maybe you will get more pumpkins from them. If the problem is that they are taking over your garden you can always cut the tendrils and move the vines or simple cut back the vine without killing it totally.
