Have you tried Firefox with the AdBlocker add-on (all free)? I absolutely never see any ad on this site any more.

I'd hate to see you go when there might be a solution.

I use Firefox & AdBlocker and have no problems on this site.
The only thing I see is that insidious "Take a Survey" slider, which I don't believe AdBlocker can recognize.
The slimy one's have determined a way to bypass the Ad blocking software; they throw 2 or 3 pop-up's at you simultaneously and the additioal one's that aren't blocked are opened in a new window and an icon appears on your taskbar. You can't delete it, without opening it. Scoundrel's, One and All! Haven't encountered that on this site, YET!

I never see ads either. I use firefox.

I use ATT DSL and the only times I see ads are when, for some reason, I have to log in again to Garden Web. I'll admit they are quite a distraction and if I had to look at them all the time on any website, I would not go there anymore.

UNINSTALL FLASH PLAYER

START > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/ REMOVE PROGRAMS > Adobe (or Macromedia) FLASH PLAYER

follow the prompts.

I wouldn't uninstall flash...you may need it for other programs that you actually want. Seems firefox works well. Try that. I'll be selfish and say it... "Don't leave. You have to much to offer us." :-)

Please download Ad Block Plus for Firefox. What will happen is that the ads will come up with a little tab on the upper right corner that says BLOCK. When you click on that, it will block that ad forever. Of course each time it comes upon a new ad, you have to block that one, but at least you don't have 'Honey Nut Cheerios' again and again.

I use firefox and its just OK. I don't know why people seem to be in love with this browser. It blocks ads until the ad companies find away around it. It's like anything else Flash is one great example. Supposedly there is an add-on that will prevent it from playing flash animations unless you tell it you want to watch it. I haven't found that yet. I don't use flash, haven't had flash on my computers in 5 years. It started out innocently enough. CHEESY intro pages and annoying animated graphics that hoard bandwidth and slow everything down. Fine, that's annoying but you can live with it. Then media conglomerates figured out flash was a great way to show us tv-like ads with audio instead of low resolution static images and unlike other video formats like java applets or windows media player, we needed flash to see cheesy intro pages and silly you tube videos. OH and automaker's web sites. Great.

Hey I spend a lot of time on the web. I somehow manage to get by without flash. True I can't watch you tube. Maybe I'm missing out. But that's exactly what corporate America wants me to think, right.

The reason I love Firefox is because I can block individual websites very easily! I can remove stat sites, and ads etc. that are not blocked (by blocking them manually).

I only see the "Take a Survey" which pans across the screen. I too, find them annoying however an "I refuse to support any form of forced commercialism" attitude implies that we're "entitled" to use this website and bandwidth for free.

You can block sites and images (ads) in the latest versions of most browsers now. Not just Firefox.

Alex, I don't mean any disrespect or to be argumentative but we have a choice. You can either go to free sites and most people do. The free sites are kept running by advertising. And trust me there are gardening sites with far more offensive advertising than this one.
OR you can go to pay sites like Dave's Garden. I refuse to pay to play but some people swear by it.

Looks like I will be using Mozilla/Firefox to log on to Gardenweb from now on. I already had it on my computer, I just never used it! Doh!

Don't know what's different about my setup, but I'm using IE7.0 and I don't see any advertising. What does it look like when you see it?

After loading adblock plus and spending a few days blocking ads, I'm amazed how much faster pages load.....

I did it! I blocked the 'do you want to take a survey' box that flies across the screen! I just happened to notice it had the little BLOCK box on it.....
