Pumpkins, Squash & Gourds

black spores on squash

I have yellow straightneck squash, and some of the fruits have black spores on the ends of them. What causes this and can it be prevented or treated? Also, will this condition spread to other squash flowers and fruits? your responses and answers are greatly appreciated.

Could this perhaps be something spreading from the dead flower at the end of the squash? If so, simply rub that thing off when it dries. If the squash itself is turning black, then remove it and avoid touching foliage or any other part the the plants until you've washed your hands.
