I did not try miniature clover, but I did sow white, red and pink clover in my rocky, compacted tree pit last year in an attempt to improve the soil before planting annuals. This year, I noticed some of the clover came up again around the edges of the tree pit so I left it since it helps the soil regarding the dog pee that often ends up in there. However I was surprised to see in August that much of the clover plants had developed mildew like my petunias and other annuals. For that reason I would not consider using clover as a ground cover or lawn replacement - I would worry it would mildew before the summer was over which just looks bad not to mention killing it or possibly spreading to nearby plants. :(

EDIT: I planted Salsa Salvia in the tree pit where the clover had been, and was coming up again this year. The salvia did not get mildew. The plants that got mildew were not near the clover. FYI!
