Bulbs in mid/east Georgia

Well, having lived here for a couple of years...I still haven't had the courage to try formal bulbs (tulips, Daffodils, etc). I am wondering what will grow here...and when I need to plant (Dec.? Jan.?)

We just bought a large (7 acre) lot of land just off I-16, preparing to build at the beginning of the year. I want to try out some bulbs in the "bottom land" as a trial (not truly bottom land, but it is lower and towards the back of the property with fewer trees...hence my tongue in cheek term for it).

I have been told for tulips, to use Darwin Hybrids, Has anyone had any success with this without pre chilling? If soÂplease give details.

What about the Narcissus family? I know the tiny ones (mins I think, either that or species-type jonquils) will work, but what about the larger ones? Any suggestions?

Note: The area I live is along I-16 between Macon and Savannah (a small town called Dublin) if that is of any help.
