Cabinet brands

Hi,
We're going to remodel our kitchen this winter and I'm a little overwhelmed at all the cabinet brand choices. We'd be going the semi-custom route so not the most expensive line but probably somewhere in the middle. Our choice of cabinet (white shaker design) seems to come in every brand. Our contractor can build the cabinets but I wanted to price out a few lines for comparison as well. I just don't where to start b/c there are so many options. Can anyone recommend the cabinet brands they used and/or give me some lines to price out. Lines I've been told to try are: Omega (Dynasty), Diamond, and Kraftmaid (Lowes). I want solid wood (everyone seems to do white shaker in Maple) and other than that, I'm flexible.

I have installed Aristokraft, Kraftmaid, Quality and Dakota Dimensions cabinets in my homes. My favorite are the Dakota Dimensions cabinets. We priced them against Kraftmaid since they are of similar (if not better) quality and the Dakota gave us more bang for our buck. We chose solid cherry cabinets, no particle board, dovetails drawers, full overlay, soft close drawers, etc...so very very nice semi-custom cabinets. Where are you located? The cabinet maker even delivered them to our job site on their own truck-they don't wrap them in cardboard boxes either to save on waste and also they want to handle the delivery themselves to ensure quality.

I love white shaker cabinets. My current cabinets came with the house and are OOOOLLLLLD. I'd love to switch them out at some point, so I'm curious to see what you discover.

Emily - my cabinets are truly the most horrible! They are poor quality to begin with, badly installed, peeling paint, and hideous knobs! Truly I could put up particle board and it would be an improvement!

We ended up going with a local woodworking company. I had priced out some fairly high end "custom" (really semi- custom) cabinets with a nearby kitchen design firm and wasn't happy with the price or the design ideas they were proposing (I can't remember the different cabinet companies they used--Plato was one of them). So I got a quote from a local woodworking company that did entirely custom work and had been recommended by our architect for another project. To my disbelief, it turned out to be quite a bit cheaper to have them do the whole kitchen renovation. We've been delighted with the result.

I have Kraftmaid maple shaker style cabinets and I have been very happy with the product and service. Anytime, I have had an issue I call my rep and he come out and addresses it. I deal with the same person every time. I have had the cabinets about 10 years and have had him come out three times. They have a lifetime warranty.

I have Fieldstone cabinets, they are all solid wood and very flexible for semi-custom. Many features considered "options" are included in the price. Soft close drawers and concealed hinges. I have soft close hinges as well and I love them. They have great organizational tools as well and the finish is furniture quality. They have reps all over the country, take a look at their website to locate one near you. I have used custom cabinerty in the past and many use particle board in the construction, the finish is dependant on the painter, and you don't get the organizational items (ie bottle dividers, knife drawers, etc) except for after market like Hafle, which can be very pricey.
