Drip irrigation--the bomb!!

This isn't going to be a startling revelation to many of you, but it sure has made life easier for me.

I am out of town for a week or so each month. I have a lot of container plants which is fine when it rains and when I am at home. I previously asked my daughter to water my containers when I was gone.

Anyway, my husband went to Home Depot and bought a timer, tubing and emitters for a simple drip system to run through my containers. Voila. I can leave town with a good feeling.

At my next house I will have a drip system throughout my landscape. It's time to quit wasting water. I was a little dumb to have so many containers this summer for the drought of the century. I may have to let some of the plants go pretty soon as a public service. (By the way, I have been using gray water to water my plants. I also use water from my air conditioners. Hope you are all thinking of ways to conserve.)

Yom, this is my goal too. I want to run the system bilaterally so that it would first draw from a grey water system (I think I found one that could be stored stacked, under the front porch. I'm just waiting to get a US shipment price...) then it would use the city water as a backup. I want to run the same in the back on a large out of the ground cistern or two (since in ground is an arm and leg)...
It will have to wait a bit. We need to first finish up the renos around the house (which are taking FOREVER)>...

Lucy, go to Home Depot or Lowe's and see if they have the components for the system. It is REALLY easy to connect to an outside faucet. You will need the tubing and the little emitters.

You can connect those drip emitters to a garden hose tap with some basic pluming supplies and connectors.

I want to do some drip irrigation too. I tried soaker hoses as a similar solution for garden beds, but I've been a little disappointed. They worked great the first time, but now they spray more water out around where the hose connects to the soaker hose than they deliver to the plants. Am I doing something wrong?

No you're not doing anything wrong they do that to everyone who uses them more than 3 days.
Go get some real drip emiters and some of that better quality hose (not garden hose) and the workers at lowes can show you what you need to connect everything together to a faucet outside.
