Rotten bulbs- Anyone else?

Ok, just spent the day finally getting a couple of beds in shape and planting things that I bought 2 weeks ago. In one bed last fall I had put out 50-75 tulips bulbs and they were beatiful this spring. I let them naturally die back and had forgotten about them.....until today. As I planted other stuff I kept finding these nasty little clumps of yellow and white gook. Finally realized that they were the tulip bulbs! All of them are rotten! I am of the mind that the wet weather is the cause of this. Any other idea of why they all did this? Area is on a slope in full sun.

Oh no! I'll have to check my bulbs. I guess that makes sense with all the rain that we have had...

Most tulips in zone 7 should be treated as annuals.If you notice,all the landscape companies remove them and replace them when they finish blooming,and the DOT doesn't use them!There may be some which make it,but they will not RELIABLY return another year.Consider yourself fortunate to have gotten a beautiful spring.I gave up;Tulips are like candy for squirrels!! I've been in zone 7 for 36 of my 64 years.

I guess I have been lucky, because my tulips have returned for the past five years. Now I'm worried so i will go any check that they have not rotted - like a lot of my other new plantings!

Wish I had not checked now! I can't even find rotten bulbs - I guess they have just been absorbed into the soil.. Expensive fertilizer! However, on the bright side by new bulb catalogues have started to appear in the mail box.

I planted about half my tulips this weekend in the same spot I have been planting them for years, and I found black, shriveled bulbs where my old tulips used to be. :(
Anyway, I'm worried about my daffs since I let them naturalize every year. Has anyone found any rotten daffs after this extremely wet summer?
