I just read this for the first time. Is it so bad for them to eat the leaves (I honestly don't know)? The trees are almost done with them. I just looked up a picture of the gypsy moth caterpillar and I've never one of those. Are you sure that's what you have (I know it does eat oak leaves)? Tent caterpillars are out now.
